Something is off in Piper Dalton’s life, and she has a feeling it might just be her. All her siblings are blissfully settled with their forever loves. But while her sisters were dreaming of white weddings, Piper was left heartbroken and commitment phobic by her first love, her best friend’s younger brother. As a woman dominating the male-driven construction industry, Piper has no interest in turning in her hammer for an apron—even if hot and hilarious Harley thinks otherwise.

Burly bar owner Harley Dutch has a bum ankle and two preteen nieces to take care of, and having his best friend, tough-as-nails and sexy-as-sin Piper Dalton, come to his rescue is just the remedy he needs. Piper is her snarky self, and she kind of sucks at caregiving, but she’s owned his heart for years, she’s got a way with the girls, and Harley would sure like to have his way with her…

As things heat up between Piper and Harley, she warns him not to fall in love with her because she’ll only break his heart. Harley is the right man for that challenge—until he makes the biggest mistake of his life, and they begin to wonder if true love really can conquer all.

Fall in love at Bayside, where sandy beaches, good friends, and true love come together in the sweet small towns of Cape Cod. Bayside Summers is a series of standalone steamy romance novels featuring alpha male heroes and sexy, empowered women. They’re fun, flirty, flawed, deeply emotional, and easy to relate to.
Tegan Fine has never had a plan—life, business, or otherwise. But she’s always had goals—to laugh daily and to pay it forward as often as she is able, just like her favorite uncle always did. After inheriting her great-uncle’s amphitheater, Tegan makes a risky move to a charming small town on Cape Cod to carry on her uncle’s legacy and hopefully expand the business with her new friend, Harper. Unfortunately, those goals aren’t doing much to help her plan a business strategy for her new endeavor. With Harper counting on her and her uncle’s legacy at stake, she swears off all distractions, determined to succeed. If only she could stop bumping into a certain arrogant, witty, and excruciatingly hot businessman who tweaks her nerves and invades her every thought. Including her late-night fantasies.
Self-professed workaholic Jett Masters never slows down. He lives life with no attachments—except to his clients, to whom he gives his all. A reluctant trip to his hometown has him itching to shake the ghosts of his past and get back to spinning deals and adding to his investments. But when he comes face-to-face with a gorgeous, handsy woman who is quite possibly the snarkiest and most disorganized person he’s ever met, sparks fly, and his sharp mind stumbles. He doesn’t even know her name, but he can’t get her out of his mind.
A chance encounter turns into a wild, sexy night, and their chemistry is off the charts—even if their ideals, and their lives, are worlds apart. Neither Jett nor Tegan is looking for more. Becoming friends with benefits seems like the perfect solution. But when they are trapped together in torrential weather, they work side by side in the aftermath, and every passionate kiss deepens their connection. Secrets are shared, trust is built, and no promises dare be made. As their lives move on, lines begin to blur, hearts get hurt, and their true selves come into focus. Tegan and Jett are left wondering if they make the perfect storm, or if they’ve reached the end of their bayside fantasy.

Book Review - The River Jewel: A Letter Series Novella by Kathleen Shoop

The River Jewel: A Letter Series Novella - Kathleen Shoop

I've got to begin my review by saying how beautiful the start of this story was, it's one of the most loveliest introductions I've read in a long time, I was completely there on that woodsy path smelling the honeysuckle in 1875 Des Moines!!

Tilly is happy with her lot in life, apart from the loss of her parents. She happily carries on with the family traditions on the families small plot of land near the cove where she lovingly looks after her mussel beds surrounding the area. She spends the rest of her time creating beautiful hand crafted items her neighbours buy.

Landon's had a privileged yet lonely life as he continually finds himself reaching out to his parents for love but they define love as money and success in business. He leaves to to prove himself to them and finally make them proud, but his one big idea may ruin Tilly's idyllic life forever.

This was such a touching story, as business versus unexpected love, and the closeness of communities as they help each other in times of need. Cannot wait to follow their story!

Book Review - The Thief's Heart by Kathleen Shoop (from the award winning Letter Series, Book 4) #historicalfiction

The Thief's Heart - Kathleen Shoop
Book Review - The Thief's Heart by Kathleen Shoop (from the award winning Letter Series, Book 4) #historicalfiction
"The author's outstanding writing brings these touching stories so much to life and make the characters feel like long lost friends."
"Being one of my favorite series, I could hardly contain my excitement to get my hands on another installment of the Arthur family and travel back in time with them again. I've loved these stories since the very first book when the family first captured my attention as they found themselves penniless and homeless in the middle of a prairie. The author's outstanding writing brings these touching stories so much to life and make the characters feel like long lost friends.
We travel back in time again to Des Moines, 1892, to be reunited with the Arthur family. Lies, resentment, and corruption are just a few things the Arthur's are faced with when all they want is a family home to feel safe in together but find they are surrounded by deceit and poverty of the times. This is Tommy's story who I really warmed to, my favorite characters running through the series has always been Jeanie and Katherine, but I found myself understanding Tommy's haphazard ways as he jumps from one desperate plight to another to survive. He has a heart of gold, and always strives to support his family from the severe hardships they find themselves in, yet sometimes finds himself conflicted between right and wrong, and pull of temptation. As Tommy and Pearl get closer she seems to have brought some steadiness to his life and I'm looking forward to see how things work out between them.
For readers who have not read the previous books I feel you would be able to follow this quite easily as the Arthur's history is referred to now and then by the author so you are not missing out on the important facts.
It will come as no surprise that I rate this emotive read 5 stars and find myself, yet again, desperate to read the next!"

Our focus is how to ruin our children’s “using” career and find joy in our lives. If that sounds like something you want to be a part of, you’re in the right place, and I’m super glad that you’re here! Are you ready to change the way you respond to your loved one’s addiction problems? I hope so!
How do you feel when you think your daughter’s drug addiction is ruining her life?
Hopeless, right? How do you cope with this hopeless feeling? Maybe you don’t. You might think, this isn’t really living; I’m dying inside because of her using career.
What do you have to do to start living for yourself?
Follow me as I take you on the journey where you transform from a seed to a flower. From a mom whose only focus is on her child, to a mom whose focus is on herself.
Using this flower analogy, you will work through seven transformational steps to letting go: Commitment; Self-Awareness; Inner Dialogue; Creating the Plan; Implementing the Plan; Progress, Reflection, and Vision; Helping Others and Living a New Life.
Once you master this shift in focus, you will help your adult child see that change is possible and that hope is the best four-letter word in the dictionary. Children do what children see—no matter how old they are. Once you show your child what hope looks like, your child will see your joy and want what you have.
This book will show you ways to change. There is no magical bullet to help your son or daughter get well. But you can make a difference by your responses to your child’s actions. To do this, you must first start with yourself.
I will give you suggestions based on my journey, but it’s up to you to act on the information. If my suggestions make you uncomfortable or they don’t resonate with you, ponder them for a while. We are all on a different journey and recovery works differently for everyone.

If you loved Seaside and Bayside, prepare yourself for these island pranksters in this Bayside Summers spin-off series!

Years ago, bestselling author Jack “Jock” Steele lost his girlfriend and baby in a horrific accident that drove a wedge between Jock and his family, keeping him from sharing a devastating secret. An aging philanthropist saved him from the brink of despair, and for a decade Jock cared for his ailing friend who became his family. Now his friend has passed away and left him a fortune—on the condition that he publishes another book. Jock is floundering, unsure how to rebuild the life he’d walked away from, much less find his muse, have another relationship with a woman, or even think about having a family of his own. But he can’t get his sweet, sexy new friend, single-mother Daphne Zablonski out of his head, and her adorable toddler must know something he doesn’t, because she wraps her tiny fingers around his heart and won’t let go.

Daphne has been through the wringer with her ex-husband and doesn’t believe true love is in the cards for her. Friends she can handle, but letting a man see her mom bod naked? Especially someone as strikingly handsome and unbelievably sexy as Jock? No, thank you. Besides, she has a toddler to chase after and enough fictional boyfriends to fill her lonely nights. If only her book boyfriends could make her body tingle the way one look from her mysterious neighbor does.

As Jock and Daphne’s friendship turns to something too tempting to deny, their lives take an unexpected turn. Can a man who has lost everything find redemption with a woman who has everything to lose? And then there’s that secret…

For everyone who hopes to find the perfect match…
1875 Des Moines, Iowa
The novella, The River Jewel, takes readers of the bestselling Letter Series novels back in time, before there was a last letter, before the Arthurs lost everything, before they knew a girl named Pearl.

"What a wonderful book-the story of two people who find each other in a most particular way. Although the title says this is a novella--it is actually longer and is about the same length as a regular story. It was so engrossing that I read it in one sitting!!" reviews Miki's Hope

"Lovely, romantic historical novel set in rural Des Moines. Shoop captures a wonderful sense of this Iowa community in the years before many were forced to move away, and I loved how she contrasted the life priorities of Des Moines against those of rich Manhattanites." @reviews Stephanie Jane @ Literary Flits

"Will Landon go against his parents wishes and have the life he wants with a young woman they disapprove of. Will he be able to prove to Tilly that he no longer has any interest in her beloved cove? This was a heartfelt, beautiful, love story." reviews Bookworm Babblings

Book Review - We're All Not the Same, But We're Still Family: An Adoption and Birth Family Story Paperback by Theresa Fraser and Eric E W Fraser

An excellent story which depicts the story of Deshaun and how he has a lot of questions about being adopted. Why was he given up for adoption? Who are his real parents? How will he cope when he meets or locate his real parents?

With the support of his adopted parents Deshaun goes on a discovery to find his real dad and once they find him it tells the story of how the relationship is rebuilt, the fears Deshaun has and the positive reassurance he receives from his adopted parents.

The drawings and easy to read narrative explains what every adopted person will feel at some point in their life in searching for their true identity. The story ends on a high note with Deshaun not only finding his dad but also finds he has an extended family who readily accept him.

A well written book for a personal point of view which will help others understand adoption and the search to find out about their heritage.

We're All Not the Same, But We're Still Family: An Adoption and Birth Family Story by Theresa Fraser and Eric E W Fraser

Written for adoptive families to explore the benefits of adoption openness.

"This short story about a boy who was adopted is heart warming. With the help of his adoptive parents he was able to connect with his birth family. There is a section at the end that gives advice on how to go about doing this for parents. It is extremely informative and in my opinion helpful. I would like to note here that the book was written by the boy with the help of his Mom!" reviews Miki's Hope

"This book provides a sweet story of Deshaun, a young boy with a desire to meet his birth father. Because of the openness of all involved, he finds answers and comfort, and senses the true meaning of ‘family.’ The story is short, but the meaning and sentiments stay with you long after you finish reading." reviews Cover Lover Book Review

This story was written for adoptive families to explore the benefits of adoption openness. The main character, Deshaun, loves his family but always wondered about his biological family. Does he look like them? Did they love him? With the support of his adoptive parents, Deshaun gets to meet his biological family. They develop an ongoing relationship, so Deshaun feels more stable in his adoptive family, but also develops a comfortable relationship with his birth family. Deshaun and his family are reminded (as we all are) that family can include biological, adopted, foster and kin members.

After reading this book, a child and their family will be able to:

- Discuss feelings about adoption

- Imagine what openness might mean for them

- Acknowledge similarities and differences among family members

- Discuss if an expanded sense of family is possible for their circumstances

Book Review - Glow Girl: Book One in the Droit Series by Michelle Weidenbenner

Glow Girl - Michelle Weidenbenner

Welcome to the strange and wonderful world of Willow who has to face the challenges of growing up and not only deal with the normal pressures of growing up but finds out she has special powers which are frowned upon in her local community and could lead to her been ignored and face persecution.

The real story behind the book in my opinion is teaching young people each and every one of them has a special talent and it is okay to have that skill if they can use it correctly without abusing or boasting about it.

It also shows if they have a certain talent and feel down, lonely, and having problems in coping with it there is always someone who is looking over them to offer a protective arm or a confidante to speak to and seek advice.

On the flip side it educates them in how to deal with the other students and people in society who might not fully understand the person or their talent as ignorance breeds hatred.

The book is an excellent read for the teenage audience as our heroine feels like she has nowhere to turn or go but then a new male student comes to the school and she finds herself strangely attracted to him and cannot figure out why.

With her special powers and confusion about growing up, it was well written and the emotions expressed will strike a cord with any young person who is going through a difficult time because as well as a lot of soul searching our heroine displays a lot of humour and finds love from her closest family.

Book 1 has gives us an excellent introduction into Willow’s life and am looking forward to following he adventures in the next book in the series.

Book Review - Rain No Evil by Michele Savaunah Zirkle Marcum

Rain No Evil - Michele Savaunah Zirkle
Based on true events, Rain No Evil is quite a chilling tale of a families encounter with evil spirits invading their home and mind. I know for sure if I was experiencing the terror and psychological traumas the spirits were causing the family I would have been running for the hills, but they bravely stayed put to see it out to the bitter end.

The story has a humorous side but also brings a dark side to the family's plight and as unexplained events start to unfold you become embroiled in the family's fight to defeat the spirits. Her two sons bring warmth to the story as the youngest seemed to be one of the spirits targets, along with his mother, and the eldest was his little brothers reluctant protector.
Their personal story behind closed doors was totally different to one that was portrayed in the local community as the father, a well respected police officer, turned into a controlling force inflicting both verbal and emotional abuse on his family at home, mostly to his wife. This action caused a rift in the marriage and they both sort comfort and love from other quarters resulting in affairs, I did feel that the number of affairs could have been left out of the story line as it did not add any value to the plot.

Savannah's constant feeling of unworthiness and being unloved, and her strong belief in family values lead her to seek guidance from God and proof that he does really exist. In addition, seeking spiritual guidance and help from others, she did not expect the change and consequences it would bring about to her family's life.

Glow Girl: Book One in the Droit Series by Michelle Weidenbenner (Young Adult Supernatural)
Willow has a choice: she can deny who she is or declare her ability to heal, but either way, her life will never be the same again.
"Acceptance of the difference in others is core to this novel about Droits and non-Droits. Droits are feared because of their special abilities. It is also about acceptance of who you are. Willow tries to hide the fact that she is a Droit so that she will "fit in" in school. This book should be read by all teenagers and adults in my opinion!!" reviews Miki's Hope
"The book is about a teenage girl named Willow, who discovers from a young age that she has a magical ability. However, in a world where being different is shunned, her parents beg her to keep her talent hidden. A story that enables your imagination to come out and play. If you love the likes of X-Men or even Twilight then this book will be for you. A page-turner with lots of intrigue to keep you hooked." reviews Carly Louise Wilson
"This was a fun read for me. The story is set in the future and people are not accepting the Droids because of their special abilities, even when used for good. Willow is adjusting to her ability and she is trying to make good choices, yet second guessing herself as most teenagers do. She is pulled toward the new guy in school, who is there for a reason. Kids are missing and people are scared. The story is easy to keep up with, yet full of surprises and I enjoyed it and the characters." reviews Natalie McMenamin

Willow is just your average sixteen-year-old girl. Okay, maybe not so average. She can heal animals. But for her own safety, her veterinarian parents have made her promise not to use her powers. Unfortunately, sometimes her compassion takes over, and she can't help ... well ... helping.
Willow is a Droit, but hides her Droitism because people like her are feared and hated by those without special abilities. Two of Willow's schoolmates, rumored to be Droits, have simultaneously disappeared.
When Willow's non-Droit friend, Rain, is targeted, Willow wonders whether she should get involved--even if that means putting herself in the line of fire.
A mysterious new friend, Trae, just might be the key to unlock her courage.
In the end, she has a choice: she can deny who she is or declare her ability to heal, but either way, her life will never be the same again.

As the founder of a multimillion-dollar international security business, Carson Bad exposes secrets for a living. He knows better than to forge relationships built on them. But for years he did just that with his best friend, and secret lover, Tawny Bishop. She brought a sense of calm and understanding to his life–in and out of the bedroom. Until one fateful night when a knock at the door changed everything.
Tawny is no longer a naive college student. She’s a sought-after perfumer living in Paris. She has plenty of resources at her fingertips, and lots of lonely nights to think about the only man she’s ever loved–the one she ran away from all those years ago. She needs to move forward with her life, but how can she when Carson still owns her heart?
Maybe showing up in the middle of the night unannounced isn’t the best route to unraveling the past and figuring out her future, but Tawny has played it safe for ten long years, and it’s only made her long for the man she never should have walked away from. Now she’s back in Carson’s life, and he’s determined not to make the same mistake twice. If only he knew what that mistake was…
